ABOUT THE NOTEBOOK

Curiosity,
with a source beside it.

An independent reading project about the Robin Hood ballads and what lies behind them.

What this site does

robin-hood.folklore.im retells the Robin Hood ballads in our own words from public-domain medieval and Victorian texts, and sets them beside what the records, historians and heritage bodies actually say. It has a places atlas, a timeline, a quiz, a sorting game and a stamp card. It is made for curious readers, families and teachers. It is not an official heritage website.

Truth first

Every factual sentence carries one of three labels: History, Literature or Tradition. A story in a ballad is never presented as a historical event, and a place with Robin’s name is never presented as proof that Robin was there.

Not connected with any film or TV show

This site draws only on medieval and Victorian texts and public-domain pictures. It is not connected with, or endorsed by, any film, television, game or toy company, or any business, app or charity that uses the name Robin Hood.
